August 2019

Hi all, Bobby the page admin here again. You won't believe what I found! An interview that Anibal did with Midwest Christian Bodybuilding (MCBB) about a decade ago. With permission, we are reprinting it here! Also, we've almost met our goal to help Blaine Robinson. If this is something you'd like to be involved in, please visit: Builders for Blaine page

Spiritual thought for the month: "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."- 1 Samuel 16:7. It is good to train and build the best physique you can, but cast away vanity and do not let your admiration of your own body become your god (little "g"). Check your heart because as the Scripture says - the Lord looks at the heart. So where are YOUR priorities? I pray they are aligned with God!
God bless you all and keep the people of the recent shootings in your prayers.

Future projects

I am interested in visiting churches, schools and organizations to share my knowledge of fitness and diet and help people get on track both physically and spiritually. I will soon be introducing a 3 Day Immersion Training Program, so keep coming back as details will be updated for this great opportunity! Also coming in the near future will be a recipe page. If you would like to schedule an appearance, please contact me.

1) What's your favorite Scripture?

My favorite scripture is Psalm 86; this Psalm helps me in moments of weakness, to communicate with Him.

2)Who were your childhood heroes?

My childhood heroes were Tarzan, Hercules and Superman. These characters inspired me to become a bodybuilder, and participate in boxing and gymnastics.

3)If you could meet anyone from the Bible, who would it be and why? You can't say Jesus, we all want to and we prayerfully will one day!

I would like to meet David; he was a warrier, monarch, musician and poet. Although he was disobedient to God his love and trust for the Lord was incomparable. It teaches me how forgiving God is. Even when we fail Him, He is always ready to forgive us and continues to work with us. I always joke with Pastor Julian by saying to him, “If God forgave David then forgiving me is a piece of cake.”

4)What is a typical day in your life like?

On a typical day, I am out of bed by 8:00am and outside by 10.00am. Since I am retired from my regular job, notice I said “regular job”, I have the freedom to do the things that I enjoy. I have been living in Deltona Florida for the past 13 years. Our house sits on 2.5 acres of land. In the back of my house, I have a shop where I do wrought iron work as a hobby. So, if someone needs a piece of exercise equipment, I build it. I do, however, keep these “jobs” under control, so not to become a “real job”. I also raise bore goats and a few chickens. I also have two dogs, a boxer and a Great Pyrenee. As you can see I keep very busy, but I love every moment. I make sure that by 4:00 pm I stop to workout. My workout place is right behind my shop, no walls, just a roof and plenty of fresh air. The exercise equipment I built myself, nothing fancy, like Vince Gironda would say…”Just steel”. I cannot take gyms anymore; some are just too crazy for me. There is a gym in Deltona called The Fitness Pit where I did personal training and worked out. It is the only gym where I trained since retiring from bodybuilding. I am enjoying my retirement and privacy.

5)What Biblical figure do you most identify with & why?

The biblical figure that I believe I identify with is the Apostle Paul. He was a man given to the cause he believed in. Though he was wrong in the way he believed in God, he loved God and did anything for Him. When he encountered Jesus and his life changed, he still carried on the same, willing to die for the cause. I believe that today, many Christians are afraid to identify themselves as Christians, for fear of being ridiculed. Anyone who acts as if they have not had an encounter with Jesus needs to come out of the closet. I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the gentile, Romans 1:16.

6)What trait do you like most about yourself?

The trait that I like most the about myself is that I am compassionate. I love helping others. In my church, I collect clothing and food for the needy. I get a lot of joy out of it.

7)What trait do you least like about yourself?

What I least like about myself is that I tend to be too strict. But God is helping me big time in this department.

8)How have you been able to represent God in your sport?

I have not had too many opportunities to speak to my fellow bodybuilders, but whenever I give my testimony, I include my bodybuilding experience. I hope that my web site will open more doors and interviews like this. I enjoy teaching and talking about my experiences with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I guess the Lord has been getting me ready for when the time comes

9)If you could change one thing in your sport, what would it be?

I think our sport has taken a different direction from what it’s supposed to be. Bodybuilding is about a healthy, strong body, able to compete in a clean healthy environment. Unfortunately, not only our sport has been ruined but all others as well, with drugs, gambling and bad attitudes. If athletes could only understand that there is no need for drugs to improve, and that you should use your God given ability to perform and let the best man win. You will still have a Mr. America, Mr. Universe, ect, ect. in your respective division. Be content with who you are, it will be difficult for a good short man to beat a good tall man, I know about that. I believe that tougher drug laws will get sports back on track, but we need to set examples regardless of whom the athlete is
.

10)If you were to die today and go to heaven, what would you like to hear God say?

If I died today and faced God, I would like him to say, “Anibal, welcome I am glad you put your trust in me, and being part of my body”.

Bobby, Val I would like to thank you for the opportunity to express myself in this interview. May God continue to bless you and your loved ones, keep up the good work for the Lord

Thank you Anibal for sharing with us! We pray for your success in all that you do, bringing glory to God!
