March 2020

Scripture for the month:

Mark 9:42 says “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me
to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were
thrown into the sea.”

Which one are you?

Welcome HIT fans! March is here already, coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb. Or is it
coming in like a lamb going out like a lion? I always forget. Anyway, I hope you are still
pounding out the reps and sets as we traverse through the months. If you are a newby, stick
with it!
Speaking of newbys. How do you more seasoned lifters treat them? When you see an
overweight guy on the treadmill and he’s sweating 10 gallons of water, shirt soaking through
and through, do you elbow your training partner while pointing with your chin and laugh at the
site? Do you shake your head at the puddles of sweat the poor guy is forming around him?
What about you ladies? Do you make fun of the overweight woman wearing leggings as she is
bent in determination on the exercise bike? Towel draped around her neck to soak up the
sweat, keeping her eyes trained on the floor below her because she doesn’t want to see people
making snide comments behind their hands? These people are doing EXACTLY what YOU did
at one point: Taking a stand for their health and well being. Why are you laughing? Why are you
staring and making jokes? I’m sure you weren’t always fully muscled. In fact, I’d bet on it. You
took a stand to build a better physique, right? Well that’s what these people are doing. They
don’t need ridicule or being the butt of jokes. They need our help, guidance and support. Be
positive. You’d be amazed at how much a word of encouragement can be. Remember:
Everyone is at a different point in their pursuit of fitness.

The very same thing can be said about our Christian walk. Where are you in YOUR walk with
Christ? Are you a seasoned Christian? Have you been saved for a long time, having a
testimony that you tell to anyone who asks? Let me ask you, how do you treat those who have
just been saved? Are you like those in the gym that talk behind their hands at the new
Christian? Making snide comments at their behavior, lack of knowledge or inability to quote
Scripture readily? Or are you looking to be a mentor, offering encouragement as they begin their
walk? Not everyone is at the same place in their travels with the Lord and it would be wise to
remember that. Mark 9:42 says “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me
to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were
thrown into the sea.” They need our help, guidance and support. Be positive. You’d be amazed
at how much a word of encouragement can be.
